Wilder Within’s
Mediumship Code of Ethics
As an evidential medium, I approach every session with humility, reverence,
and a deep respect for the autonomy of both the client and the spirit world.
All Are Welcome
- I am committed to cultural humility, anti-racism, LGBTQIA2S+ affirmation, and accessible, trauma-informed practice. I aim to create a spiritual space that honors diverse traditions, avoids appropriation, and respects the sacred in all identities, lineages, and lived experiences—including those of neurodivergent, disabled, and chronically ill clients.
- I do not replicate or offer culturally specific rituals—including those rooted in Indigenous traditions—outside my lineage or scope as a white medium of Irish, Alsatian, and British descent.
- I recognize the unceded territories of the Tongva, Chumash, and Tataviam peoples as the literal ground beneath both my home and my work. Without their historic and ongoing stewardship, this land would not carry the same shape, ecology, or meaning. I strive to inhabit this place with a consistent commitment to repair, to dismantling whiteness and white supremacy, and to remaining accountable to the ongoing violence, displacement, and erasure wrought by settler colonization.
- If you ever experience me falling short of these practices, I welcome open dialogue. I’m committed to doing the work required to foster reachable change that increases your being seen, supported, and respected.
- I expect to be welcomed by my sitters according to the above terms, including utilizing the correct name and pronouns, and reserve the right to terminate a session at any time should my basic human rights appear to be repeatedly disrespected.
Consent Is Sacred
- You hold full authority at every stage. Your boundaries, comfort, and agency come first. You are in charge of discerning and speaking what you need.
- I only connect with spirit world in our session after explaining the process clearly. You can decline any part of the session at any time.
- Spirit communicators arrive in service of your healing, insight, or joy—but you’re always in control.
- Audio recording by the client isn’t permitted during sessions. This supports energetic integrity and encourages full presence. If you need a recording or written summary for sensory, cognitive, or accessibility reasons, please let me know when you book or before we begin. I’ll do my best to meet that need.
- I honor spirit communicators as sovereign beings. I don’t command them—I invite, witness, and translate with care. They too have consent.
- Consent is sacred and ongoing. You can revise or withdraw consent at any time before, during, or after the session.
Mediumship Is Not Therapy
- If you are currently in therapy with me, or are closely connected/one degree removed (such as a partner, family member, or close friend of a therapy client), you are generally not eligible to book a session. Those who are two or more degrees removed may be eligible.
- While I am a licensed therapist, my mediumship practice is entirely separate—legally, ethically, and energetically. Mediumship sessions are not clinical treatment and cannot replace psychotherapy, psychiatric care, or crisis support.
- Mediumship can support meaning-making and post-traumatic integration, but it is not therapy. My role as a medium is not to diagnose or treat, but to open a space for grounded, often tender spiritual connection. As strong feelings arise, I may offer psychoeducation and, if helpful, referrals to bridge the mediumistic with other clinical care.
- If deeper integration or trauma work is needed, I encourage you to connect with a licensed therapist alongside or after our session.
- I maintain HIPAA-level confidentiality around all session content, including identities and personal stories. If I share any stories from my time as a medium, client details are anonymized and stories told to emphasize loving messages from spirit world and about my own mediumship development.
Evidence Matters
- My mediumship is evidential. I seek descriptions, specific shared memories, personality traits, and other verifiable details to support the specific connections you seek. When accurate evidence comes through, it helps build trust in the process.
- Some of the strongest evidence may be facts or phrases you already recognize. Other times, a communicator may offer details—like a childhood nickname, hobby, or personality quirk—that aren’t yet familiar to you. I encourage you to gather more evidence about a spirit communicator before and after a session whether by asking relatives, revisiting memories, or researching further. I’ll also ask your spirit communicator to focus on evidence you will be able to verify.
- Recognizable evidence is important, but I also honor metaphor, emotional tone, symbolic imagery, and subtle sensory impressions. The spirit world speaks in many ways, often weaving multiple meanings into one communication. My role is to relay what I receive with clarity and care, while collaborating with you to interpret what resonates—always with respect for your own insight and discernment.
- Evidence for non-incarnate beings—such as spirit guides, angels, or other ascended beings—will differ from evidence offered by deceased loved ones. Because there is no shared physical life to reference, these beings often communicate through memories of times you felt protected, moments of intuitive guidance, or your felt sense of warmth, familiarity, or recognition when I describe their presence. Resonance itself becomes a meaningful form of confirmation.
- This work isn’t about unquestioning belief—it’s about making contact that feels personal, grounded, and real, using evidence as a bridge between worlds. For me, evidence is what makes mediumship not just mystical, but meaningful.
Practice Without Hierarchy
- You are the final authority on your own life.
- I do not place myself or the beings I connect with above your needs during a session. We meet as equals in shared space.
- The spirit communicators I work with engage as collaborators, not authorities. Even if “ascended” beyond the density of human life, they do not consider themselves superior. That said, the personality of a particularly assertive spirit may still come through as such—your bold aunt might still be bold. Consider it evidence it’s her, not a directive to follow blindly.
- Neither I, nor the spirit world, will dictate what you should do or what is “best” for your life. I am here to help spirit communicators offer responsive validation and support as you weigh life’s denser questions.
- A non-hierarchical approach to mediumship may feel especially important if you’ve been harmed by hierarchical, coercive, or spiritually manipulative systems—religious, familial, or therapeutic. I honor your pace, your intuition, and your right to choose what resonates.
- All emotional responses are welcome. There’s no “right” way to receive a message—feelings like grief, laughter, or uncertainty are all valid.
No Gurus Here
- I do not engage in or endorse practices that encourage dependence, unquestioning belief, or spiritual hierarchy.
- I actively resist cult-like dynamics, including positivity bypassing (“high vibes only”), guru worship, and claims of exclusive access to truth.
- I reject fear-based messaging that discourages questions or critical thinking, such as “you’re not ready to know this” or “you’ll attract dark energy if you doubt.” I also challenge thought-terminating clichés like “spirit is always right” or “don’t question the message—just receive,” which can shut down inquiry and growth.
- I do not accept being placed into a guru role. If that dynamic begins to emerge, I will name it gently and invite us back into mutual grounding.
- I believe insight arises through shared reflection, not one-way transmission. You are welcome to take what resonates and leave what doesn’t.
- I do NOT support “devil’s advocacy,” which dismisses phenomenological and ethnographic evidence and disrupts vulnerable intuitive inquiry under the guise of rational debate. Similarly, I reject rigid materialism and the misuse of science as a blunt tool to invalidate intuitive and ancestral ways of knowing.
Intuitive Insight, Not Expert Advice
- Information shared during a session—whether from spirit or from me—may include references to health, finances, relationships, or legal matters. This content is offered for spiritual and personal reflection only, and is not a substitute for medical, psychological, financial, or legal advice.
- I am not a licensed physician, therapist, attorney, or financial advisor in the context of this work. No part of this session is intended to diagnose, treat, or otherwise serve as a professional consultation. I encourage you to consult the appropriate licensed professionals for decisions in those areas.
- I do not share predictive messages about sensitive topics—like death timing, illness, pregnancy, abuse, missing persons, or major life decisions.
Spirit Connection Not Guaranteed
- Spirit communication is a relational process, not a transaction. It depends on timing, resonance, and willingness on the part of the spirit world, as well as the energy and openness shared between us.
- While I bring care, preparation, and attunement to every session, I cannot promise that a specific spirit communicator—or any—will come through.
- If a connection doesn’t hold, it isn’t a reflection of your (or my) worthiness, effort, or openness. Some days simply have “foggier weather,” and clear reception isn’t always possible. As with a whale watch, sightings aren’t guaranteed! If a strong link doesn’t form, I offer a rescheduled session. Some days are just quiet on the waters!
- If there’s still no connection in a follow-up session, I’ll refund your fee unless you’d prefer to reschedule once more.
